About Us
Why we built Halcyon
We’re Emilie and James — a family physician and an ER physician, married to each other, both raised in California.
We spent the first years of our careers inside the system: Emilie in visits that ended just as patients got to what mattered, James in an emergency department catching what those visits missed.
In 2016 we opened Halcyon Health to practice differently. We capped our panels, gave out our cell numbers, and put every price on one page. Nearly a decade and 1,650 patients later, we still think medicine’s problems are complicated — and that being someone’s doctor isn’t. Know your patients. Answer when they call. Have time when they come in.
That’s the practice we wanted for our own family. We built it for yours too.

Why “Halcyon”?
The halcyon is the kingfisher of Greek myth — a bird said to calm the wind and the waves so it could nest on the open sea. “Halcyon days” still means exactly that: a stretch of calm in rough conditions.
That’s the bird on our logo, flying over a quiet wave. And it’s the promise of this practice: healthcare in America is a rough sea. Your doctor’s office shouldn’t be.
